Strawberry chocolate iced tea isn’t your every day iced tea but this rooibos tea from Republic of Tea makes a delightfully refreshing glass of cold tea on a hot day – team it up with my chocolate strawberry mint simple syrup and it’s a game changer!
Do you ever make jam water? You know, how when you empty a jar of homemade jam, but there’s always some left at the bottom and on the sides of the jar that you can’t quite get? So you fill the jar with cold water and let it sit for a day until all the leftover bits flavour the water? And then you use the water to make lemonade or iced tea?
Does anyone else do this?? Anyone?
I hope I’m not alone. If not, you should all start.
The reason I randomly bring this up is, well… strawberry chocolate iced tea.
A few years ago a friend introduced me to one of her favourite teas from Republic of Tea – Strawberry Cuppa Chocolate Tea. It’s a rooibos tea (or red tea) with carob, cocoa kernels, chocolate flavor, strawberry flavor, sweet blackberry leaves and bourbon vanilla beans.
I fell in love. This is my favourite “treat” tea. It tastes like dessert in a cup – bright strawberries with a hint of cocoa and vanilla. If I want to spoil myself even further, I add a tsp of sugar when I make it. But I always drink it hot. With no caffeine it’s a really nice tea to have in the evening when you don’t want to eat dessert but want something sweet and comforting.
A few weeks ago as the weather heated up, I started to think maybe this would make a really good iced tea – maybe with a squirt of lemon. It would be like using jam water to make iced tea!
And then I got my hands on my first batch of ripe local strawberries and my mind started turning. So I made a batch of strawberry chocolate mint syrup and thought I would use that to give the iced tea an even stronger strawberry flavour.
It was a hit – I had this in my fridge for nearly a week enjoying it. It doesn’t have as strong a flavour as an iced tea made with black tea, and the longer you let the teabags steep, the more intense the strawberrry and vanilla from the tea will come through!
It’s perfect to serve on a hot summer’s day. And you’ll love it so much you’ll want to make sure you have a supply of Strawberry Chocolate teabags on hand for winter to enjoy hot as well!
- 3 Republic of Tea Strawberry Chocolate tea bags (or any other strawberry chocolate tea)
- 6 cups of water
- sugar to taste (I used 3 tsps)
- ½ cup strawberry chocolate mint syrup (see my previous post)
- bring six cups of water to a boil
- add three tea bags and let steep for 15-20 minutes
- add sugar to sweeten to taste, not forgetting you will be adding ½ cup of syrup
- stir in strawberry chocolate syrup and let cool for 30 minutes
- refrigerate and/or serve with ice and a spritz of lemon juice if you wish
This is not a sponsored post and I did not receive any product from Republic of Tea. This just happens to be a tea that I love and that is always in my tea cupboard! I think you might like it too :)
